Academy was proud to be a key contributor for the Special Olympics 2014 USA Games, recently held in New Jersey.  The bi-annual event is one of many Special Olympics produces each year worldwide.  The 2014 USA Games was attended by more than 5,000 athletes and coaches from all over the country.  As an organization, Special Olympics’ mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competitions in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.  The reach of Special Olympics is vast with programming and events touching millions of participants worldwide.

Academy’s involvement in the 2014 USA Games was multi-faceted.  First, the company was heavily involved in the overall transportation plan for the games with several employees asked to chair various event committees.  During the event, Academy’s service was required for transporting athletes, coaches, VIPs and youth groups throughout the week from various hotels to event sites such as Rider University, The College of New Jersey, Princeton University and the Hun School.  Our services were utilized for the duration of the week-long event, utilizing 100 buses per day, from various terminals (including Florida), to transport participants to and from the various events and numerous airport transfers.

Academy’s experience with events played a key role in the overall success of the Special Olympics 2014 USA Games.  Our ability to meet the complex requirements of the client and adjust operations quickly provided zero distractions for the participants and their supporters.

The Special Olympics was not just another event for Academy, but a truly unique experience for our employees.  Drivers got in the spirit by participating in a “pin exchange” with participants, trying to collect as many pins from as many states involved in the games.  Drivers from as far away as Miami made the journey north specifically to be involved in the games because of the experience and cause of Special Olympics.

It has been an already exciting year of events in 2014 in the New York metro area, starting with the Super Bowl, and now including the Special Olympics 2014 USA Games.  Academy’s experience, flexibility, professionalism and willingness to go the extra mile for our clients have never shown more brightly.
